Vintage Sequinned blanket | Handira Wedding Blanket

This rug was previously washed by its owner causing the blanket to turn PINK. It’s the prettiest shade of pink and a very lovely unexpected color came out.

Due to the age of this blanket and its handwoven nature, imperfections, repairs and small rust stains can be found. I try to photograph and mention any major imperfections. Metallic pieces may show small signs of rust – this is normal for vintage handira blankets.

The traditional handira blanket or more commonly known today as a wedding blanket is handmade using wool, cotton, embroidery and round-metallic pieces.

The Berber handira was crafted by the women of a family in anticipation of a daughter’s wedding. Believed to bring blessings, fertility and good luck to the marriage. The handira was draped over the shoulders of the bride before meeting the groom.

Authentic vintage handira blankets are unique heirlooms and are becoming a rarity as the tradition is disappears.
